British singer-songwriter Elton John apologized to his fans in New Zealand on Sunday evening after losing his voice due to pneumonia on foot and was forced to interrupt a concert in Auckland .
Elton John attends the 28th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Academy Awards, holding the Oscar for Best Original Song for “(Rocketman”) “Love Me Again” , which he won with Bernie Taupin at the 92nd Academy Awards, in West Hollywood, California, United States, February 9, 2020.
John burst into tears at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland after being unable to sing despite medical treatment.
He went to his Instagram page on Sunday evening to apologize to the fans who had come for the show.
“I want to thank everyone who attended tonight’s concert in Auckland. I was diagnosed with pneumonia on foot earlier today, but I was determined to give you the best human experience possible, ”he said in the post.
“I played and sang my heart, until my voice could no longer sing. I am disappointed, deeply upset and sorry. I gave everything, ”he added.
The legendary singer, who won an Academy Award last week for the best original song from his own biopic, “Rocketman”, had to be helped from the stage after trying to get into the song “Daniel”, reported the New Zealand Herald.
John had told the crowd at the start of the concert that he was sick and that his voice had been “shot”, but he was determined to put on a good show.
He struggled to play ‘Candle in the Wind’ and told the audience that he did not know how long he could continue, said the Herald. He briefly left the stage but returned in a new suit.
Several songs later, he had completely lost his voice and the show was over. He was seen crying and greeting an enthusiastic crowd as he left the scene, assisted by doctors.
The concert was part of the John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
He is scheduled to play two more shows in Auckland – Tuesday February 18 and Thursday February 20. The shows are scheduled to run as scheduled because doctors are confident John will recover, state broadcaster 1News reported on Monday, citing event promoter Chugg Entertainment. .
