The second season of ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman’ will be released on Netflix on Friday, and that promises to be startling. Earlier it was announced that Kanye West is coming – always good for a few controversial statements – and now Ellen DeGeneres (61) also makes an emotional confession in the program, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Ellen DeGeneres tells in one of the new episodes of ‘My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman’ how her mother, Betty DeGeneres, married a “very bad man” when she was a teenager. Not long afterwards Betty was told that she had breast cancer and a breast had to be amputated. “When my mother was gone, he told me that he had felt a lump in her chest and that he should also feel my breasts,” DeGeneres told Letterman. “He didn’t want to worry her, but he had to feel my breasts. Because I didn’t know much about bodies, I didn’t know that all breasts were different and … Anyway, he convinced me to feel my breasts and later he tried to do it again and again. ”
The presenter continues: “He tries to smash my door and I pound my window and walk away because I know it will lead to more … And I don’t want to tell my mother because I protected her and I knew that it would ruin her happiness. ”She now regrets that, she admits. “I am angry with myself because I was too weak to go against him. I was 15 or 16 years old, “says DeGeneres. “It’s a horrible story, and the only reason I tell it in detail is because I don’t want other girls to let something like that happen.” She continues, “I should never have protected her.” I should have protected myself. I didn’t tell her for a few years, and then I did. But she didn’t believe me and stayed with him for 18 years.
The relationship with her mother has improved in the meantime, but the past continues to nibble, it turns out. “I have cared for her all my life,” says DeGeneres. “And I have continued to do that. I made sure it didn’t hit me too hard. Until I recently thought: ‘I wish I had been better looked after. I wish she had believed me. ” And she did apologize, but still … “
With her story, the 61-year-old presenter wants to help other victims of sexual abuse. “We women do not feel ourselves worthy, or we are afraid of having a voice, and we are afraid of saying no,” it sounds. “That is the main reason for me to talk about this: there are so many young girls, it doesn’t matter how old you are. When I see people talking about this, it pisses me off when victims aren’t believed, because we don’t make this up. And I like men, but there are so many men who get away with so many. It is time for us to get a vote. It is time for us to get the power. “
