Although the latest polls from The Hollywood Reporter showed unexpectedly that most viewers liked the final season of Game of Thrones, almost two million fans were definitely disappointed with the end of the main characters storylines. They were joined by Maisie Williams, who said that she did not like the fate of Arya Stark and would like to change.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress admitted that she could not understand some of the screenwriting decisions, namely Arya’s unexpected refusal to kill Cersei Lannister, whom she had dreamed of since the first season. “I just wanted to be on the set again with Lena Heedy, she’s having fun. I wanted Arya to kill Cersei, even if it cost her her life. Even reading the script, as Jamie finds Cersei, I thought Arya would now take off his mask and both of them would die. It seemed to me that this was exactly what motivated the heroine, ”Maisie shared her opinion.
Like the fans, Williams didn’t understand why the faceless Arya just gave up halfway. “The dog asked her if she wanted to be like him and live like him. And in my thoughts there was only one answer – yes. But, apparently, after meeting with John and the night with Jendry, Arya realized that she was fighting not only for herself, but also for her family. For me, it was a shock, because I didn’t imagine the development of the character at all, ”the actress admitted.
Fans also did not expect Arya Stark to go to explore the unknown lands in the final. Nikolai Koster-Waldau even suggested that the creators take off a spin-off dedicated to the heroine, but the director of the HBO channel rejected this idea.
