The 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher Abby at an American elementary school last week had taken his mother’s gun to the classroom.
Meanwhile, praise is being given to the 25-year-old teacher, who first brought other children to safety before worrying about her own gunshot wounds. “She’s a real heroine.”
The shooting happened last week at an elementary school with more than 500 students in Newport News, Virginia. The teacher, Abby Zwerner, was seriously injured in the process. She is now in a stable condition in hospital.
A shot
During a press conference, the police released more details about the ‘unprecedented incident’, foreign media report . The weapon the boy used was that of his mother. She had bought it through official channels and he had taken it to school.
The boy fired one shot at his teacher. As the police previously confirmed, this was not by accident. “It was intentional,” says a police spokesperson. The shooting incident took place while Zwerner was teaching. She was hit in the hand and upper chest.
She then made sure that all other students were safely outside the classroom before calling for help on her own. “She is a real heroine,” says the police spokesperson.
Psychic testing
According to eyewitnesses who told their story to The New York Times , Zwerner would have lost consciousness outside the building. That happened after she asked bystanders to call 911. The school went into lockdown and the 6-year-old gunman was arrested by the police.
