Victoria’s Secret will stop with the so-called ‘angels’, the models who previously showed the lingerie of the brand during fashion shows and advertising campaigns. Instead, the American company links actress Priyanka Chopra (pictured) and football player Megan Rapinoe to the brand.
They will not be seen in lingerie, but will be used as spokespersons and will carry out other PR activities for Victoria’s Secret.
With this, the brand is taking a new path and there are no longer only slim models to be seen, but leading icons and changemakers . According to the lingerie label, Rapinoe and Chopra are “women who shape the future”.
The soccer star and actress join a group of women who have previously joined the brand, including Sudanese model Adut Akech, Brazilian transgender model Valentina Sampaio, plus-size model Paloma Elesser and journalist Amanda de Cadenet.
“This movement is about inspiring and bringing positivity,” said director Martin Waters, according to The New York Times . “The old Victoria’s Secret was outdated and not inclusive enough. That is going to be different now, we are entering a new era. Megan and Priyanka can do their part.”
Models such as Doutzen Kroes, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima were previously associated with the brand as ‘angels’ and showed the lingerie during the annual fashion show. This has not been organized since 2019, because the viewing figures have been falling for years. In May this year, Victoria’s Secret became a standalone company and was separated from its previous owner L Brands.
