More than 6,000 people have been evacuated in the US state of North Carolina after a fertilizer plant caught fire .
There was a danger of a strong explosion, because there were over 300 tons of ammonium nitrate in the factory’s warehouses. In contact with the flames, it would have caused a devastating explosion.
Authorities decided to evacuate all residents within a radius of almost two kilometers.
Much of the factory building was reduced to ashes , but the fight against the flames paid off: in the end, the explosion was avoided.
