The US Department of Defense is asking Congress for $ 2.6 billion to develop a hypersonic weapon.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to increase the budget for the development of hypersonic weapons instead of additional funding for anti-missile defense systems. It is reported by Foreign Policy , citing sources in the Pentagon.
It is noted that the US Department of Defense requested a smaller amount of money from Congress for the ABM Agency – 9.4 billion instead of $ 9.9 billion a year earlier. In this case, the agency asks $ 2.6 billion to develop hypersonic weapons.
Earlier, after the suspension of US participation in the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF), Trump stated that the States would acquire “the most effective and advanced” missile defense systems that could protect all cities in the country.
