The American justice announced Thursday the creation of a special unit. It will be used to investigate “individuals and networks providing support to Hezbollah.”

A special unit has been tasked by US justice to investigate the Lebanese Shiite movement , Hezbollah, accused of funding itself through drug trafficking .

The team will be able to continue supporting Hezbollah

This ” Hezbollah Financing and Narcoterrorism Team” (HFNT) is tasked with “investigating and prosecuting individuals and networks providing support to Hezbollah, if necessary,” the Justice Ministry said in a statement. .

The ministry asked in December for an investigation into the management of the fight against drug trafficking by Hezbollah (close ally of Iran) by the Obama administration. The latter was suspected of having hindered the efforts of the drug police in order to avoid overthrowing the historic agreement reached on the Iranian nuclear program.

“Block the tide of a devastating drug crisis”

“The Department of Justice will move heaven and earth to eliminate the threats of terrorist organizations that weigh on our citizens and block the tide of a devastating drug crisis,” said Minister Jeff Sessions in the statement.

The HFNT “will use all appropriate tools to actively investigate and prosecute those who provide financial support to Hezbollah to eradicate the illegal networks that fuel terrorism and the drug crisis,” added his deputy, John Cronan.
