Prince William (30) and his wife Catherine (40) attend the premiere of the new film ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in London on Thursday evening. There they met cast members, including protagonist Tom Cruise (59), as could be seen on videos from British media.
Several British media are sharing images showing William and Kate’s arrival on the red carpet in Leicester Square. Later in the evening, the couple also meet director Joe Kosinski.
The premiere is part of Royal Film Performance: a premiere of an important film attended by standard members of the royal family. Top Gun: Maverick is the 72nd edition of the royal event. Previous years have included premieres of the films 1917 , Specter , The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Casino Royale .
In Top Gun: Maverick , Tom Cruise reprises his role as pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell 36 years after Top Gun . In the new film, he has to train a new batch of pilots for a special mission. The long-awaited sequel to the 1986 hit has been postponed several times due to the corona pandemic and was initially expected to be released in 2019.
