In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mike White, the mastermind behind “The White Lotus,” provided some exciting insights into the forthcoming third season of the popular series, promising that it will be “longer, bigger, crazier.”
Describing the next season as a “supersized” installment, White expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season.”
However, fans will have to exercise some patience, as the third season is not expected until 2025. The delay is primarily due to the ongoing writers’ strike and the SAG-AFTRA strike, as confirmed by HBO and Max chairman/CEO Casey Bloys.
White gave an update on the current status of Season 3, revealing, “I’m seriously finishing scripts. Still waiting to be able to cast. If the SAG strike isn’t resolved soon, then yeah, we’d have to push again because the show has a new cast every season, so there’s lots of parts to cast … I’m more than eager to get going.”
It has been exclusively reported by Variety that the third season will be set in Thailand, with Natasha Rothwell making a return as Belinda from Season 1. Unfortunately, the production of the third season had to be halted during the early stages due to the writers’ strike.
White also hinted at the thematic focus of the upcoming season. He said, “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.” Fans can expect a blend of dark humor and satire as the series continues to explore intriguing and thought-provoking themes in its signature style.
