According to reports, Lady Gaga is set to portray a rendition of the popular DC Comics character, Harley Quinn. In the comics, Harley Quinn is a psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and eventually adopts his malevolent ways. Margot Robbie previously portrayed the character in both “Suicide Squad” and “Birds of Prey” films, while Kaley Cuoco currently voices the character in the animated series “Harley Quinn” on HBO Max. With Gaga taking on the iconic role, audiences are sure to be in for a thrilling performance.
Last August, Lady Gaga confirmed that she would be joining the cast of the upcoming “Joker” sequel. The film has been described as a musical, adding a unique twist to the dark and gritty world of the DC Universe.
Director Todd Phillips’ original “Joker” film was a huge success, both critically and commercially. It broke records as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and earned 11 Oscar nominations, ultimately taking home two awards for best actor and best original score.
Following the immense success of the first film, speculation about a sequel quickly began to circulate. Despite changes within the DC media landscape, Phillips’ project has remained largely independent from the newly-formed DC Studios, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. It has also been confirmed that the “Joker” sequel will not be tied to the narrative continuity of other upcoming DC films.
Fans can look forward to seeing “Joker: Folie à Deux” in theaters on October 9, 2024 – exactly five years after the release of the first film. With Lady Gaga joining the cast and the creative team behind the original film at the helm, the sequel is sure to be another unforgettable journey into the dark and twisted world of the Joker.
