Elizabeth Debicki, who will soon be seen in the Christopher Nolan film Tenet, has been cast as Princess Diana in the last two seasons of The Crown.
“Her spirit, words and deeds still live on in many hearts, “ Debicki says of the princess, who was killed in a car accident in 1997. “It’s a great honor to be able to play in this masterful series, which has kept me glued to the tube since the first episode.”
The Australian actress (29) has also appeared in The Great Gatsby, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The Cloverfield Paradox.
Most of the actors for the lead roles in The Crown’s last two seasons are now known. In the fifth and sixth seasons, a different cast will take over the roles of the actors who play in the third and fourth seasons and play an older version of them.
Debicki will star alongside Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce and Lesley Manville, who will play Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret respectively. Who brings Diana’s husband Charles to life in the last two seasons has yet to be revealed.
Diana will make her first appearance in season 4, which will be seen on Netflix at the end of this year. She is then played by the relatively unknown actress Emma Corrin. The recordings of this were completed just before the corona crisis broke out.
In season four, the marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles is discussed. The lead roles are played by Olivia Colman (Elizabeth), Helena Bonham-Carter (Margaret) and Gillian Anderson (Margaret Tatcher).
The fifth season will probably not be released until 2022, because preparations need more time due to the cast change.
