In a heartfelt revelation during a new Netflix documentary chronicling his life, Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone opened up about a poignant moment he shared with his late son, Sage, during the filming of “Rocky V.” The documentary provides a rare glimpse into the personal life of the iconic actor.
The documentary delves into a particular scene in “Rocky V” where Stallone’s real-life son, Sage, portrayed his onscreen offspring. Director Thom Zimny posed a question that struck a chord with Stallone: “How did you write the scene in the basement with your son? He’s saying, you’re invested in the boxing, but you’re not seeing me. Is that something you drew upon from your own experience?”
With a raw and candid honesty, Stallone, the creative genius behind the Rocky franchise, confessed, “Unfortunately, yes.”
He went on to elaborate, revealing, “I tried to take something that actually is what I wish I had done in real life, but I wasn’t able to do that in reality. And so, quite often, I would do it theatrically, magically.”
Stallone drew parallels to a pivotal moment in the franchise when Rocky’s wife, Adrian, delivers an emotionally charged speech, urging him to be present for their son. He admitted that this powerful scene was crafted from his own reflections on past shortcomings. “You know, unfortunately, you put things before your family, and the repercussions are quite radical and devastating,” Stallone confessed, providing a glimpse into his deeply personal connection to the character he brought to life on screen.
Tragically, Sage Stallone passed away in his Los Angeles home on July 13, 2012, at the young age of 36. His cause of death was attributed to atherosclerosis, which led to a heart attack. Sage was the son of Sylvester Stallone and his first wife, Sasha Czack, with whom he had parted ways in 1985. Stallone is also a father to four other children: Seargeoh, from his marriage to Czack, and three daughters, Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet, with his current wife, Jennifer Flavin. The poignant memories and lessons from his life experiences continue to shape Stallone’s remarkable career and personal journey.
