The Netflix hit Squid Game has a chance to win three Golden Globes. The South Korean production is competing in the Best Drama Series, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories. It is one of the first non-English-language series to be nominated in the television category.
Squid Game , about people who are in debt and therefore enter a deadly game where they can win big, takes on Lupine (also non-English speaking), The Morning Show, Post and Succession in the Best Drama Series category .
In the best drama film category, Belfast, CODA, Dune, The Power of the Dog and King Richard have a chance . Will Smith stars in the latter film and is also nominated for his role in the Best Actor in a Drama Film category. Smith will face Mahershala Ali ( Swan Song ), Javier Bardem ( Being the Ricardos ), Benedict Cumberbatch ( The Power of the Dog ), and Denzel Washington ( The Tragedy of Macbeth ).
Nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series are Jennifer Lawrence ( Don’t Look Up ), Marion Cotillard ( Annette ), Alana Haim ( Licorice Pizza ), Emma Stone ( Cruella ), and Rachel Zegler ( West Side Story ).
The most nominations are for the films The Power Of The Dog, West Side Story and Swan Song . In the television category, Ted Lasso , Succession and Pose are contenders.
The nominations for the 79th Golden Globe Awards were read Monday in Los Angeles by rapper Snoop Dogg. The awards are presented annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) to film and television contributors from the United States and around the world.
It is not yet known where the award ceremony will take place and what form it will take. Normally, the gala can be seen on channel NBC, but it previously announced that it would not host. They made this decision because there was a lot of criticism about the diversity in the HFPA. The organization did announce that it would make changes to better guarantee that diversity.
