Spectators of a boxing match in South Africa have witnessed a match that is as bizarre as it is gruesome. One of the two lightweights in the ring suddenly seemed to take on an invisible opponent.
Simiso Buthelezi kept hitting in a corner where no one else was standing. The referee immediately ended the match and declared his opponent the winner.
Not much later, Buthelezi collapsed. In the hospital it became clear what was going on: he had suffered serious brain haemorrhages and was placed in an artificial coma. Two days later, he died in hospital from the effects of the brain haemorrhage. It seems that the brain hemorrhage caused hallucinations, which can happen in rare cases.
It is striking that the images show that prior to the incident it was Bhutelezi who hit his opponent hard. The referee first stopped the boxing match to give his opponent the opportunity to get up again.
