The main character will be voiced by Mindy Kaling.
Streaming service HBO Max is developing an animated prequel to Scooby-Doo, which follows the adventures of Velma Dinkley. The future show will be one of three adult cartoons that the streamer is currently preparing. The other two are the animated comedy Fired on Mars, voiced by Pete Davidson, and the reboot of The Clone School, under the creative supervision of Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Mindy Kaling, the star of the TV series The Office and Project Mindy, will give her voice to the heroine from the famous Mystery corporation. She will also executive produce the animated series, along with Charlie Grundy and Howard Klein, whom Kaling knows from the said “Office”. The production team also includes Sam Register (“Batman: The Killing Joke”), and the names of the other creators have not yet been announced.
The project is described with an original humorous detective story, which will tell in detail about the complex and colorful past of the famous seeker of secrets. The opening season of “Velma” (the show’s official name) will consist of 10 episodes, but the timing is still unknown.
Velma last appeared on screens in last year’s Warner Bros. “Scooby-Doo” – in that project she was voiced by Gina Rodriguez. Linda Cardellini plays the heroine in the full-length series about the characters of the Hanna-Barbera company.
