British singer Rick Astley is deeply moved by the way his mega -hit Never Gonna Give You Up has been used in the latest installment of the Apple hit Ted Lasso . 55-year-old Astley posted a video on Twitter on Monday in which he shared his reaction.
The song plays a prominent role during a funeral in the series. The fans of the series with their enthusiastic reactions ensured that the hashtag Ted Lasso has been trending almost continuously on Twitter for the past few days.
“It took me a while to process my feelings about the latest episode of Ted Lasso ,” Astley said in the video. “I’m completely blown away by the way the song has been used in the series. It was so moving, so incredibly beautifully done.”
Never Gonna Give You Up is one of the biggest hits of the eighties. It was the lead single from Astley’s debut album, Whenever You Need Somebody , in 1987 . In 2008, Astley won the MTV Award for Best Act Ever for the song after a vote among MTV viewers.
Ted Lasso is an Apple comedy about a British soccer team and its charismatic American trainer. The series won no less than seven Emmy Awards last week, including the prize for best series. The series is also gaining popularity in the Netherlands, partly due to the role of Dutch actor David Elsendoorn in the second season.
