The accused of sexual abuse R. Kelly, who had to hand in his passport and is not allowed to leave the state of Illinois because of the criminal investigation that is currently underway, wants to ask the judge for permission to travel to Dubai. The singer wants to give a number of shows there.
Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg announced on Wednesday that the request has been filed and that the judge will decide on this on Friday, reports The Chicago Sun-Times .
The R&B singer, currently on bail, has signed a contract to give three to five shows in Dubai in early April. “He must be able to work, just like everyone else who is free on bail,” says Greenberg. His lawyer would stay with Kelly during the trip to Dubai, should it continue.
Kelly also has financial problems. He recently spent a few days in jail because he could not pay alimony. Last week the judge decided that the artist should continue to pay his ex-wife Drea $ 21.00 (more than € 18,500).
He has to go back to court on Friday for being charged with sexual abuse. Kelly is suspected of having abused four women, including three minors. The singer says he is innocent.
