In parts of the United Kingdom, a 45-minute gun salute will be heard on Saturday afternoon because of the death of Prince Philip. In the cities of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast and Gibraltar, 41 gun salutes will sound from 1 p.m. Dutch time, the British Ministry of Defense reports.
The ceremony lasts a total of 40 minutes, with a gun salute every minute. Navy ships also participate in the tribute to the prince, who served in the British navy during the Second World War.
It was announced on Friday that Philip will not be given a state funeral and his body will not be laid out in a state building. He wouldn’t have wanted that himself. The funeral is in line with the prince’s customs and wishes, authorities said.
Queen Elizabeth’s late 99-year-old husband will be laid in state at Windsor Castle prior to the funeral at St George’s Chapel in this royal residence. More details about the funeral are expected to be announced this weekend.Volume 90%00:5000:551:45 am
