The prequel to the Die Hard film series, which would take place for the first part from 1988, is off the track. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura informs the website Polygon that the film has been scrapped, but does not explain why.
Film studio Fox announced the prequel in 2015. The 66-year-old American actor Bruce Willis, who played the lead role in the Die Hard films, would also be seen in the announced prequel.
Di Bonaventura does not know whether Disney, which has acquired Fox, has any plans for a new part. “I have no idea what their plans are,” says the producer in the interview.
The plan was to introduce a new face as the young version of protagonist John McClane. Di Bonaventura: “The interesting thing about our idea was that you could meet the young John McClane and use Bruce in that. So it was really interesting that way. You got to see two versions of him, so to speak.”
The Die Hard movies revolve around Detective McClane, who rescues a dire hostage situation. After the first part, four more films were made: Die Hard 2 (1990), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Live Free or Die Hard (2007) and A Good Day to Die Hard (2013).
