Greek-American actress Olympia Dukakis, who won an Oscar in 1988 for her role in Moonstruck , passed away on Saturday at the age of 89. The brother of the actress announced this via Facebook. The actress has been struggling with health problems for some time.
“My beloved sister Olympia Dukakis passed away in New York City this morning. After many months of illness, she has finally found peace and is with her Louis”. Dukakis was married to actor Louis Zorich, who passed away in 2018.
Dukakis received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the romantic comedy Moonstruck , in which she appeared alongside lead actors Cher and Nicholas Cage. Cher won the Oscar for Best Female Lead for the film.
