The International Nuclear Agency (IAEA) said Monday that the expansion of North Korea’s main nuclear site was making progress.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken immediately promised that the United States and its allies would respond quickly if North Korea continues with a nuclear test. In that case, the US would be prepared to adjust its ‘military stance’, according to Blinken.
US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said last week, after a meeting with her South Korean counterpart, that a nuclear weapons test by North Korea would be “a complete violation of UN Security Council resolutions.” And: “Not only South Korea, the US and Japan would react strongly and clearly, I believe the whole world would.”
On Saturday, Blinken and his South Korean colleague reaffirmed a commitment between the two countries and Japan to work closely together on the “denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”
