Pokémon is celebrating its 25th birthday this week, and to celebrate Nintendo is announcing a new game: Pokémon Legends Arceus.
Legends Arceus will be released on the Nintendo Switch in 2022 and is an open world roleplaying game. Nintendo showed the first images on YouTube on Friday .
In addition to a new game, Pokémon maker Game Freak also comes with remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, two games from 2006. The graphics of the remake have been thoroughly overhauled. The new three-dimensional style is reminiscent of more recent Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Let’s Go.
According to Nintendo, the content of the games is virtually the same as before.
Legends Arceus takes place in the same area as Diamond and Pearl, Sinnoh, but in the medieval past. The game has an open world reminiscent of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Nintendo and Pokémon creator Game Freak are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series this year with various events and promotions, including a Post Malone concert on Saturday.
The first two volumes, Red and Green, hit the shelves in Japan for the first time on February 27, 1996. In 1999 these Game Boy games like Pokémon Red and Blue came to Europe.
