Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar will continue to collaborate with the US platform Netflix for a dramatic series on immigration.
After a fantastic Dark thriller, directors Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar will tackle the social thriller about immigration with 1899. This new TV series Netflix will follow the passengers of a steamboat sailing west to leave the old continent, from London to New York. The latter is composed of a mixture of Europeans united by their dreams and their hopes for the new century and their future abroad. When they discover another boat migrating adrift on the water, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrible nightmare.
In a short statement to Varity, the creators insisted on the contemporary dimension of this new project and its anchoring in geopolitical issues: ” It is a matter of deepening the question of what unites us and divides us, and the way whose fear can make us choose the second option. ”
