Mariah Carey tops the US chart for the third year in a row around Christmas with All I Want For Christmas Is You . It is therefore the first song in the history of the chart to top the list in three different periods, Billboard reports .
All I Want For Christmas Is You was released as early as 1994 on the album Merry Christmas , but not as a single. The song was therefore not eligible for a place in the charts.
Those rules have since changed and the song is streamed, downloaded and played on the radio a lot every year around the holidays. As a result, the Christmas hit reached first place in the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2019. Carey also led the charts around Christmas in 2020.
The song has now been in number one for a total of six weeks and has now been listened to more than a billion times on Spotify.
It had never happened before that a song reached the top three times with intervals during which it also left the charts.
Carey released another Christmas single this year. On the song Fall in Love at Christmas she can be heard together with Khalid and Kirk Franklin.
