Amazon has attracted a well-known name for its grandly announced Lord of the Rings TV series. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director Juan Antonio Bayona will direct the first two episodes, Deadline reports. The Spaniard thus follows in the footsteps of Peter Jackson, who previously made the world-famous films about the stories of JRR Tolkien.
“Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time”
“Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time,” reacts Bayona. “As a big fan it is an honor for me to join this fantastic team.”
Bayona’s most recent work is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which raised 1.3 billion dollars worldwide last year. He has also directed films such as The Impossible, A Monster Calls and The Orphanage.
At the end of 2017 it was announced that Amazon had won the battle for television rights for Lord of the Rings from HBO and Netflix. The three companies were approached by Tolkien Estate to talk about a prequel from The Fellowship of the Ring. What exactly fans can expect is not yet known. It is also not yet known when the series will be shown.
