In response, the IDF engaged the Hamas fighters. The statement highlighted that during the exchange of fire, civilians were observed leaving the hospital building. Additionally, other armed individuals, identified as terrorists, emerged from adjacent buildings, joined the attack, and later retreated to the hospital.
The IDF emphasized that this incident exemplifies Hamas’ ongoing misuse of civilian structures, including hospitals, for launching attacks. The military publication underlined the group’s tactics of using civilians as shields during confrontations.
Earlier on the same day, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported Israeli tank deployments and soldiers converging “from all directions” near the Al-Quds hospital in Gaza. They also noted ongoing bombardment, prompting preparations to evacuate patients, their families, and medical staff from the hospital.
