I May Destroy You is the big winner at the BAFTA Television Awards. The series, a joint project of the BBC and HBO , won in five categories, including Best Miniseries.
The lead actress Michaela Coel received several BAFTAs: best director, best writer of a drama series and best actress.
Other major awards at the London awards show included Paul Mescal. He received a Best Actor statuette in Normal People . Save me too was voted best drama series and Malachi Kirby received an award for best supporting actor in Small Ax . The Best Supporting Actress award went to Rakie Ayola for her role in Anthony .
British filmmaker Steve McQueen ‘s BBC series Small Ax had the best chance of winning a BAFTA. The five-part story about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London has been nominated fifteen times. The series eventually went home with six statuettes, including best costumes and best hair and makeup.
The UK’s top television awards were presented by comedian Richard Ayoade. The show took place in a different form this year due to the corona pandemic. For example, only some of the stars were present live during the show and on the red carpet.
