The fourth Matrix movie appears in the United States on May 21, 2021. A Dutch release date of the science fiction film will be announced later, reports film company Warner Bros. on Thursday at NU.nl.
Earlier it was announced that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, the protagonists from the original Matrix trilogy, were also cast for the fourth part. In addition, there is a role for Neil Patrick Harris ( How I Met Your Mother ). Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, known by Aquaman , is talking to play a younger version of rebel leader Morpheus.
The direction is in the hands of Lana Wachowski, who, together with her sister Lilly, devised and directed the first three parts.
The first Matrix movie appeared twenty years ago and became a worldwide blockbuster. The film won four Oscars, including one for the groundbreaking visual effects. In 2003, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions were released. The three parts together yielded more than 1.6 billion dollars (more than 1.4 billion euros).
The science fiction film series is about rebels fighting an all-controlling, self-thinking computer system. “Many film ideas that we discussed twenty years ago appear to have become even more relevant in today’s society,” said Wachowski. “I am very happy to work with the characters of Neo and Trinity again.”
