He joined his wife Barbara. Former US President George HW Bush died Friday night, his family said. The details of the funeral will be communicated in due course, the spokesman said.

“Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro and I have the sadness to announce that after 94 remarkable years our dear daddy has died,” George W. Bush said in a statement posted on Twitter by a family spokesman. “George HW Bush was a man of noble character and the best father a son or daughter could have wished for.”

A mandate marked by the Gulf War
The death of the former US president comes just months after that of his wife Barbara, with whom he remained married 73 years. The couple had five children and 17 grandchildren.

After serving for eight years as Ronald Reagan’s Vice President, George Bush joined the White House as the 41st President of the United States. His presidency, from 1989 to 1993, coincided with the end of the Cold War and was marked by the Gulf War between August 1990 and February 28, 1991.
