Dolly Parton (75) had her first corona prick on Tuesday. It was a special moment for the singer because she was vaccinated with the vaccine from pharmaceutical company Moderna, to which she herself contributed a million dollars.
“I want to tell everyone to take it too”
“I am old and smart enough to get the vaccine,” Dolly said in a video posted on Twitter. “I want to tell everyone you should take it too.”
To urge her fans to also get vaccinated, she jokingly changed the lyrics of her hit Jolene to Vaccine and sang a few lines. “I know I’m kidding now, but I’m dead serious about this. We all want to go back to normal, whatever that is,” she said. “All you wimps who don’t have the courage, let yourself be pricked.”
The video ends with the moment when Dolly got her first shot. It was set by her good friend, Dr. Naji Abumrad, who works at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Moderna’s vaccine was developed with the help of scientists at that center.
