The filmmaker admitted that he is, in fact, working on this first project of its kind to be filmed in outer space.
Director Doug Liman has teamed up with Hollywood star Tom Cruise in his action-adventure film, which has not yet been titled, to be shot in outer space.
Liman has previously directed Cruise on ‘American Made’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.
Using his Instagram account, the filmmaker admitted that he is, in fact, working on this first project of its kind.
Cruise aviation company and technocrat Elon Musk, Space X, is collaborating with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to film the ambitious narrative film aboard a real SpaceX spacecraft.
Liman has been on the project since its inception, with the director writing the first draft of the script and producing alongside Cruise.
Preproduction of the space movie is unlikely to begin in the very near future because the coronavirus pandemic remains active.
The director, also known for films like ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’, ‘The Bourne Identity’, is in the post-production stage of ‘Chaos Walking’, starring Daisy Ridley.
Meanwhile, Cruise is set for the release of the long-awaited ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ on December 23.
The actor also hopes to resume production of ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ with director Christopher McQuarrie after the pandemic closed all Hollywood productions in March.
