The American playwright Neil Simon died in New York on Sunday at the age of 91. Among his most famous works are Barefoot in the Park (1963), The Odd Couple (1965) and Sunshine Boys (1974).
His publicist reported Sunday to The New York Times . Simon was nicknamed ‘The King of Comedy’. For decades he had success on Broadway and in many other theaters.
Simon’s oeuvre has been awarded prestigious prizes such as the Pulitzer Drama Prize and with three Tony Awards. He is also honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American humor.
Simon’s work was also loved in the Netherlands. For example, from the end of 2004, a Dutch theater version of The Odd Couple could be seen in the theaters for months .
