The American TV channel Showtime is working on a series about comedienne and talk show host Joan Rivers. According to Variety , actress Kathryn Hahn will play the lead.
The series is called The Comeback Girl and follows the aftermath of the termination of Rivers’ talk show in the late 1980s. That came almost at the same time as her husband’s suicide in 1987. The series shows how Rivers managed to recover after these violent events.
Rivers was one of the first successful female comedians. She became known in the 1960s for appearances on The Tonight Show . Due to her popularity, she was the permanent replacement for Johnny Carson on that talk show for years.
In 1986, Rivers became the first woman to have her own late night talk show. She then hosted several other programs and for years commented on the outfits of the stars at award ceremonies.
Rivers died in 2014 at the age of 81 as a result of a medical error during minor surgery. The presenter fell into a coma and died a week later.
