Elliot Page’s Memoir Exposes Homophobic Encounter with Famous Actor at LA Party
In his upcoming memoir, titled “Pageboy,” acclaimed actor Elliot Page recounts a distressing incident that transpired at a birthday celebration in Los Angeles. The event took place in 2014, shortly after Page had publicly come out as gay during a powerful speech delivered at a Human Rights Campaign conference. It’s important to note that Page later came out as transgender in December 2020.
In a chapter aptly named “Famous A-hole at Party,” Page recounts how an actor, whom he considered an acquaintance, approached him during the gathering. The actor boldly asserted, “You can’t be gay. It’s not a real thing. You’re simply afraid of men.” Page reveals that the actor further escalated the confrontation by threateningly stating, “I’m going to engage in sexual activity with you to force you to realize that you’re not truly gay.”
Elliot Page’s Unveils Actor’s Attempt to Backpedal on Homophobic Remarks in Gym Encounter
Following the unsettling confrontation at the birthday party, Elliot Page unexpectedly encountered the same actor at the gym a few days later. In an apparent attempt to retract his previous remarks, the actor claimed, “I don’t have an issue with gay people, I promise.”
Page, however, remained firm in his response. “I believe you might,” he asserted.
Speaking to People magazine, Page disclosed that similar experiences have occurred throughout his life, resonating with the experiences of many queer and transgender individuals. These moments, often dismissed or overlooked, carry profound impacts. By sharing this story in his book, Page aims to shed light on the harsh realities and constant adversity faced, especially within predominantly cisgender and heterosexual environments.
Page consciously chose not to disclose the actor’s name but made it clear that the individual would become aware of their inclusion in the book.
