American actor Chadwick Boseman, known for the Marvel superhero film Black Panther from 2018, has died of colon cancer. His family announced this in a statement. He turned 43 years old.

Boseman has never publicly spoken about his illness, which was diagnosed in 2016, and has continued to work on major Hollywood films. “It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther,” said a statement posted on Boseman’s social media accounts. “He died in his house, with his wife and family by his side.”

Boseman also played the role of Jackie Robinson in the movie 42 (2013) and James Brown in Get on Up (2014).
