Bill Cosby Faces New Sexual Assault Allegations from Singer Morganne Picard in Recent Lawsuit
Renowned comedian and actor Bill Cosby is once again at the center of controversy as he faces new sexual assault allegations from singer Morganne Picard. The lawsuit, filed in New York City on Friday, August 4, alleges that Cosby drugged and raped Picard back in 1987.
According to court documents obtained by The Daily Beast, Picard claimed that Cosby invited her to the set of his popular show, The Cosby Show, under the guise of helping her budding singing career. However, she alleges that Cosby provided her with drinks and persistently encouraged her to consume them, leading her to believe they were laced with drugs. Picard said she would often black out after drinking these beverages.
In one harrowing incident, Picard recounted waking up naked in a hotel room with vaginal soreness, indicating she may have been sexually assaulted during one of these blackouts. Alongside Cosby, Picard also named several companies, including NBCUniversal Media and The Carsey-Werner Company, in the lawsuit, claiming they failed to address Cosby’s alleged misconduct.
Cosby’s representative, Andrew Wyatt, has denied the allegations on his behalf, accusing the accusers of seeking media fame and financial gain. This is not the first time Cosby has faced such accusations. In 2015, over 60 women accused him of sexual misconduct, many of whom claimed he drugged and raped them.
In 2018, Cosby was found guilty in a separate sexual assault lawsuit filed by Andrea Constand and was sentenced to prison. However, he was released after serving two years when his conviction was overturned due to an agreement with a previous prosecutor. Despite the legal challenges, Cosby maintains his innocence and has stood by his version of events.
The latest lawsuit brings renewed attention to the allegations against Cosby and sheds light on the ongoing discussion around sexual misconduct and accountability in the entertainment industry. As the case unfolds, the public awaits further developments and legal responses from all parties involved.
