President Biden’s confidential document issues escalate as FBI conducts search of his vacation home.
On Wednesday, the FBI conducted a search of President Joe Biden’s beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware as part of an ongoing investigation into the mishandling of classified documents. The operation was carried out with the full support and cooperation of the President, according to his lawyer, Bob Bauer.
This search follows previous searches in Wilmington, Delaware and a former office space in Washington D.C. which also turned up a small number of classified documents.
These continuous revelations have been a hindrance for President Biden as he reaches the midpoint of his first term and prepares to announce his candidacy for a second term.
The Department of Justice has appointed a special counsel to conduct an independent investigation similar to the one currently underway regarding former President Donald Trump’s collection of classified documents found at his Florida home.
The White House attributes President Biden’s issue to unintentional errors in the storage of documents from his time as Vice President under Barack Obama.
Contrary to President Trump’s resistance to hand over hundreds of classified documents after leaving office in 2021, President Biden has stated that he has been fully cooperative with authorities since the discovery of a limited number of classified documents at a former office he used at a Washington think tank.
The FBI’s subsequent search of President Biden’s primary residence in Wilmington uncovered additional classified documents. The search of his less frequently used Rehoboth property marks the third location to be inspected by authorities.
In his statement, Bauer indicated that the Rehoboth search was initiated by the Justice Department without prior public notice and that the President agreed to cooperate fully.
“Today’s search is a further step in the thorough and timely process carried out by the Justice Department and we will continue to support and facilitate it fully. We will provide more information once the search is completed.”
