An auction of part of George Michael’s art collection at auction house Christies in London raised more than 10 million euros.
The evening auction attracted more than 12,000 visitors from 27 different countries online, in addition to the bidders at Christies in London and New York. Almost a quarter of the bidders were new to the auction house.
All items submitted were sold on Thursday evening. The online auction will continue until Friday afternoon. The total proceeds will then also be announced.
The money is used to continue the philanthropic work of the British singer and songwriter, who died on Christmas Day 2016.
George Michael’s art collection represents a wealth of works by so-called YBA (Young British Artists), whose work he deeply admired and with whom he built strong ties.
