The authorities have confirmed that the small plane that went missing after departing from New York’s JFK airport on Thursday evening, crashed before reaching its destination. The single-engine Beechcraft A36 was found near Rye Lake in White Plains, New York, adjacent to the Westchester County Airport (HPN), after a large-scale search-and-rescue operation. The two people on board, the pilot and a passenger, were both found deceased. This information was reported by Cleveland 19 News and local station News12.
The aircraft, which was en route to the Cuyahoga County Airport in Richmond Heights, Ohio, encountered engine trouble and the pilot reported the issue to the FAA. The incident occurred about a mile away from the Westchester County Airport around 6:15 p.m. as reported by FAA spokesperson Elizabeth Isham Cory.
According to Westchester police spokesperson Kieran O’Leary, air traffic controllers were informed by the pilot of the approaching plane to the White Plains airport, however, the communication went silent after that. O’Leary also mentioned that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
