At least 10 people were killed Saturday in the Philippines in the crash of a passenger plane that crashed into a house just after taking off from an airfield in the suburbs of Manila, authorities said.
The twin-engine Piper PA-23 had just taken off in the town of Plaridel when it crashed, killing the five people on board and at least five people – three children, their mother and grandmother – in a house, said the local police chief, Julio Lizardo.
“We had to search the rubble to find all the victims,” he said after initially announcing a death toll of seven.
The causes of the plane crash, operated by a local charter company, are unknown at the moment, said the police chief.
