Samantha Irby (41), one of the writers of ‘Sex and the City’ reboot ‘And just like that…’, asks fans of the series to stop sending her death threats. The website ‘Queerty’ quotes from a newsletter Irby sends to followers.
“I wasn’t prepared for it”
“I had prepared myself for the criticism that participating in this series could cause,” confesses Samantha. She quit Twitter and tries to avoid negative articles about And just like that…. “But I wasn’t prepared to actually receive death threats because people don’t agree with the choices fictional characters make in their fictional relationships.”
The screenwriter is happy that fans don’t like the series as much as they had hoped: ‘That’s okay, you can hate the series. I’m very happy with it, we can disagree on that.’
And just like that… tells the story of the lives of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) who are now in their fifties. Kim Cattrall, who played fourth girlfriend Samantha Jones in the original series, thanked her for a role in the reboot.
The series was received mixedly but has not yet been shown in the Netherlands. HBO recently announced that And just like that… will only be available to Dutch fans in the course of 2022 when HBO Max is introduced here. Sex and the City , based on Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name, ran from 1998 to 2004. Two films have already been made as sequels in 2008 and 2010.
