According to the Argentine press, the employee was immediately fired for lack of respect for the soccer idol.
According to the English newspaper Mirror Sport, an employee of the funeral home that organized Diego Maradona’s dismissal lost his job after committing disrespect. Supposedly the worker, who was in charge of preparing the body of the soccer legend for his wake, was fired after taking a sick selfie with the corpse of the former Argentine professional soccer player.
As the tabloid first reported, the guy crawled past Maradona’s open casket to take the nasty selfie.
The photo, which has gone viral, shows the man raising his thumb next to the body of the 60-year-old.
Needless to say, the photo has enraged the public, with one Twitter user writing: “They should strip him of his Argentine citizenship. You don’t do something like this. Total lack of respect ”. A second user warned the others: “Do not retweet.”
In the wake of public outrage, the owner of the Funeral Home Sepelios Pinier has confirmed to local media that the employee has been fired for his disgusting behavior.
Maradona’s body was taken to the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, the Casa Rosada, for his farewell, but after the great uproar that arose, the wake ended earlier than planned.
Later that day, his body was transferred to the Bella Vista cemetery on the outskirts of the capital, where he was buried, along with his late parents.
The ceremony was held in private and only close friends and family attended.
