Just over a week after the publication of folklore by Taylor Swift (30), the surprise album breaks all sales records.
The album immediately reached the top spot in the Billboard 200, the main chart of the United States, with the highest sales ever. With this she broke her own record from 2019, when her album Lover was released. The album that previously held the record was also credited to Swift: Reputation , from 2017.
Swift is also the first artist whose seven different albums are sold at least half a million times. The album also performed well on streaming platforms: with 80.6 million streams on Spotify, it became the most-streamed album by a female artist on release day.
Folklore was listened to 35.47 million times on Apple Music, setting the record for the most streamed pop album in 24 hours. In England, Swift is the only female artist to reach the top of the charts with five albums.
Swift released the album folklore on July 24, less than a day after she announced the record. She wrote the songs when she was self-quarantined.
