Aziz Ansari was not present at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, where he was nominated in the Best Actor category in a Comedy. Ansari became discredited by an article on the Babe website, in which an anonymous photographer accused him of sexual misconduct during a date.
The woman says in the play that she has felt forced to have sex. The actor himself defended himself by saying that he had the idea that she agreed.
Witch hunting
The piece caused considerable debate about the MeToo movement, which according to critics starts to look like a witch hunt with such publications. Others believe that Ansari’s behavior is exemplary for the pressure that men exert to force women into sexual acts.
According to People magazine, the applause stopped at the SAG Awards when Ansari’s name was called among the other nominees. He did not win the prize; in his category William H. Macy took off with the award, for his role in Shameless.
