The Crown ‘s production team is taking a break this year, so the fifth season will hit Netflix no earlier than 2022. According to Deadline , shooting will not resume until June 2021.
The inserted recording stop would not have to do with the current corona crisis, but was already planned according to insiders.
A similar hiatus was introduced between the second and third seasons, when the cast of The Crown was replaced. In the third season, Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter took over the roles of Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby and played an older version of Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.
In the fifth and recently announced sixth and final season, Imelda Staunton takes the role of Elizabeth and Princess Margaret is played by Lesley Manville. Because the preparations for the fifth season need more time due to the cast change, the recordings will only start in less than a year. The sixth season will be filmed in 2022 and is expected to premiere in 2023.
The fourth series of The Crown , starring Colman as Queen Elizabeth and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, will air on Netflix later this year. The recordings were completed just before the corona crisis broke out. In season four, the marriage between Princess Diana and Prince Charles is discussed.
