The MTV’s annual Movie & TV Awards, which were initially scheduled to air later this month, have been postponed indefinitely due to concerns about the corona virus, Variety reports Tuesday.
According to Variety , MTV has been thinking about moving the annual awards ceremony to December for a long time, but since it is not yet clear whether December is a viable option, MTV has not yet announced a new date.
Although many awards ceremonies take place online, MTV has decided not to follow that approach. Should the event not take place this year, it will be the first time the event has been skipped since the MTV Movie Awards were established in 1992.
Video Music Awards
MTV is currently investigating options to continue the Video Music Awards (VMAs), which are scheduled to take place on August 30.
“We are investigating with government officials, the medical community and key stakeholders how the 2020 VMAs can be safely held on August 30 at the Barclays Center (a stadium in New York, ed.),” An MTV spokesperson told Variety in May. .
“The health of everyone involved is our number one priority. In addition, we are working on several contingency plans to broadcast the award worldwide, including virtual performances or a crowd-free show.”
