Apple made the surprise decision to release its original film The Banker’s Annual Festival of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. The film was scheduled to premiere at the festival tomorrow, but the date of the premiere is not yet clear.
As reported by The New York Times , Apple The banker was to premiere tomorrow at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles, with a theatrical release on December 6, and a possible availability on Apple TV +. The banker would have his first AFI Fest during the coveted evening from Thursday night to closing.
In a statement, Apple said it was informed of “some concerns” about the film last week. With the filmmakers, Apple then made the decision to delay its debut:
“LAST WEEK, SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE FILM WERE BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION,” APPLE SAID IN A STATEMENT ON WEDNESDAY. “WE, ALONG WITH THE FILMMAKERS, NEED TIME TO EXAMINE THESE ISSUES AND DETERMINE THE BEST NEXT STEPS.”
Apple must “still make a decision regarding the theatrical release of the film,” according to The New York Times . The American Film Institute has not been informed of the change until today, indicating how far the decision was made at the last minute for Apple.
The banker is one of Apple’s first original movies for Apple TV +. His exit was somewhat anticipated, and the fact that he was accepted for the AFI Fest closing time slot indicated that The banker could have potential prices.
Here is the summary provided by Apple for the film, which stars Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson:
INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY, “THE BANKER” FOCUSES ON THE REVOLUTIONARY BUSINESSMEN BERNARD GARRETT AND JOE MORRIS, WHO ARE DEVELOPING A BOLD AND RISKY PLAN TO ATTACK THE OPPRESSIVE RACIAL ESTABLISHMENT OF THE 1960S BY HELPING TO OTHER AFRICAN AMERICANS TO PURSUE THE AMERICAN DREAM.
WITH HIS WIFE EUNICE, GARRETT, THEY FORM A WHITE WORKING-CLASS MAN, MATT STEINER, WHO PRESENTS HIMSELF AS THE RICH AND PRIVILEGED FACE OF THEIR BOOMING REAL ESTATE AND BANKING EMPIRE, WHILE GARRETT AND MORRIS INTRODUCE THEMSELVES AS A JANITOR AND A DRIVER. THEIR SUCCESS ULTIMATELY DRAWS THE ATTENTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WHICH THREATENS EVERYTHING THE FOUR HAVE BUILT.
