In the ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, Emilia Clarke (33) tells colleague Dax Shepherd (44) how surprised she was by the many nude scenes she had to do for ‘Game of Thrones’. And the actress admits that she felt quite pressured, since it was her first major role and she didn’t know what was common. Fortunately, she could count on the support of opponent Jason Momoa (40).
British actress Emilia Clarke tells how she only realized what she had signed for after she saw the script. “I came straight from drama school and thought,” Treat this as a job. ” If the nude scene is in the scenario, then it is clearly essential. It is what it is and I am going to make the best of it, ”says Emilia in the Dax Shepherd“ Armchair Expert ”podcast. “I float through that first season, and I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve never been on a movie set of this size – I’ve been on a movie set barely twice before – and now I’m completely naked on a movie set surrounded by people, and I don’t know what to do and what about it I am expected. ”
Nowadays she knows better what she feels good about, but at the time of ‘Game of Thrones’ she felt quite pressured to give in to the nude scenes, says Emilia. “I had a fight on the set where I said,” No, the sheet stays up, “and they said,” You don’t want to disappoint the fans, do you? ” Fuck you!
Fortunately Emilia could count on the support of her opponent Jason Momoa, who played her husband Khal Drogo. The two had quite a few free scenes together, but Jason always treated her well. “Only now do I realize how lucky I was with him, because it could have gone a whole different way. But Jason had experience, and he said, “Honey, that’s how it should be, and that’s not how it should be.” I’m going to make sure it goes smoothly. ”She adds that the actor, for example, always made sure that a dressing gown was always ready for her during nude scenes. “He was so kind and considerate and he cared about me as a person. He really took care of me. In an environment where I did not even know that care had to be taken of me. ”
And Jason also encouraged her to say it when she was uncomfortable, and that was necessary. “Apart from the nudity, I have thought the entire first season that I was not worthy to demand anything.” That took its toll. She spent several moments crying on the toilet to forget those thoughts. “I started crying on the toilet and then came back to play the scene and pretended everything was all right.”
